Iโve been using this for a couple of weeks and itโs been a godsend. My skin needed a slightly stronger exfoliater after getting used to their mandelic acid. Iโm more dry now that itโs winter and this has helped take all the gunk off my skin. This works well with the other products I have in my routine that also contain lactic acid (not as high concentration of course) and I havenโt had any sensitivity issues. If you have sensitive skin, try mandelic first before going up to lactic 5% - 10%.
Initially when using this product I didn't see much of a difference and was planning on returning it but after using it for longer about 2 months now I started seeing a difference in my acne. I started slowly trusting it and using it once every night and started seeing some results. My acne scars started disappearing and my dark spots started going away.
This lactic acid is such a game changer for me! I have rosacea and have been struggling with the associated bumps for a long long time. I have a prescription cream that helps quite a lot, but I still felt insecure about my skin texture. Plus, most acids (including hyaluronic) very much inflame my rosacea. However, I took a chance on the lactic acid because I felt incredibly desperate for my skin to be somewhat smooth... And, OMG! My forehead is smooth for the first time in, like, maybe my whole teenage/adult life? Plus, I've been using the lactic acid for many months now, and my skin still looks great!
This is my first direct acid, so I wanted to take baby steps. I think this one is so weak, though, that I don't notice any difference! I have been using it on my face and the backs of my arms at night for over a week and haven't noticed any changes. I will keep trying for now, but I may need a step up!
It's a great product but after 6 months the color changed and it's now turning into an orange.Should I throw it away?
I am not sure of the concrete results that this product brings to my skin. On the other hand, I can say that my skin tolerated it well.
I am amazed at how good this product is. I'm 53 with fairly good skin though I am prone to breakouts over my nose and cheeks. My skin in this area was quite congested. Only a few days of using this and my skin has never looked or felt better. I use this in the evening along with my usual night moisturiser to dilute the strength. I was worried I would experience some irritation but have only had a little redness.Really happy with the results.
This works awesome for me.. i use it on other parts of my body mixed with moisturizer too.. The real reason I am writing a review is because I want to buy 5% lactic acid and 10% maleic acid for my friend who is black. I was wondering if this can cause pigmentation in people of color. Please respond. I will advise my friend to patch test, but I would really rather send her products that have a good track record for people with darker skin. Can Use this with the 5%retinol in squalane? If so which would i apply first? I also purchased the azeliac acid. Can i use them all together?
I have been using this acid for about two weeks along with the 100% Plant-Derived Squalane and my life has literally changed. I have had acne in my forehead area for over 5 years and have tried many products, spent tons of money and never got any noticeable results. Acne really made me insecure and even made me avoid people because I felt so conscious about it. I havent had any breakouts and my acne scars are also going away. I am so grateful I have found something that finally works! Thank you Deciem, cant wait to try more stuff!
Great alternative for people who had problems with AHA+BHA (as I did). This serum is less aggressive, yet it does its work. But if you have sensitive skin, start slowly and don't be scared if you have dry skin maps in the beginning. DECIEM Response: Thanks so much for your review! For sensitive skin types, we would suggest starting with Mandelic Acid 10% + HA :-)
Feels really good on the skin, I like it. I didn't see many improvements but maybe it's because I need to switch to the 10%. Still a very good product.
This product really helped smoothen the texture of my skin and give it a really nice glow! The option for a 5% concentration is a nice introduction to chemical exfoliation as my skin is quite sensitive. There was no purging and I saw results a week after using! I typically use it will your Squalane cleanser, HA 5% and Niacinamide and am loving all of them. Please offer your exfoliants in 60mL!
I can only use this product once or twice a week on the dry/ flaky patches of my skin. I have mixed feelings about this one as it makes my skin very smooth the next day but when I tried to use it two nights in a row, after the second night my skin got dried out again and I got red patches.
at age 38, i figured it's time to take better care of my skin. i have lots of acne scars and redness. after first week of use, the redness was much lighter and my cheeks looked smoother. after 3 weeks, there is a major change! very little redness and way smoother skin. i wish i had taken a before pic. when this runs out, i may do the 10%, but will definitely be using one or the other.
Besides the Retinoid 2%, this is my other favorite product from The Ordinary. I have been using the LA 5% for 6-7 months & could not be happier with the results. It has an incredibly lightweight, very liquid formula that sinks into the skin instantly, so other products layer beautifully on top. I have extremely sensitive skin & did not experience any irritation or adverse effects with this product. I truly appreciate that The Ordinary products do not include fragrance, which can actually cause skin damage & sensitivity/irritation. During the winter, I typically suffer horrible dry patches around my nose. After using this product, I have ZERO dry patches. My skin has never felt so soft or looked so fresh! I think anyone & everyone can benefit from this product regardless of age or skin type. I can't wait to try the LA 10% next!
Best of the best products which helps to maintain my skin moisturized and smooth even in winter. Love it!
I wanted a mild chemical exfoliator for my combination skin which has been extremely sensitive as of late. After a month of using every other day at night followed by lots of moisturizer I noticed a great deal of improvement in my melasma and my skin has never felt so smooth. Thank you The Ordinary for making incredible skin products at such great prices!
After months of using this with hyaluronic acid for fear of drying out and getting no results, I decided to take the HA out of the equation and what a difference! I use the Lactic Acid every night after cleansing with no other products and now I wake up with soft, bright skin. It has taken away all of my bumps that I have always had on my forehead that I thought was just due to dry skin. I am obsessed with this product. Highly recommend.
I have dry + sensitive skin and I use this product 3x a week. The morning after I apply it my skin feels soft and hydrated, and after just 1 month the small "bumps" on my forehead are completely gone. I will definitely buy it again.
I'm on my second bottle of this and plan to buy a third. I know TO also sells a 10% lactic acid but I think the 5% does such a good job exfoliating already that the 10% would just be overkill. I think this is a great product. I use it 2 days a week currently and that's enough for me.
I've used a lot of products for my pigmentation and Acme but I've never had a good solution. I tried acid lactic just for a couple of days I see a lot of improvement. Woow thank you
One of the best of The Ordinary product for my skin. One evening I use lactic acid, another evening one of retinols of The Ordinary. Already in the morning I see brighter and smoother skin.๐
This serum is so thin and spreadable, it feels hydrating on the skin. It feels amazing and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. Itโs a gorgeous acid exfoliator that isnโt harsh on the skin. Over time it has helped to even out my skin in all ways, including evening my skin tone and getting rid of texture.
The 5% lactic was gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin- work up the next morning feeling smooth and noticing a difference. Excited to see my longterm results!
Absolutely great. I've been using this in tandem with the salicylic acid serum and my skin texture has imporved enourmously. I have combination skin with lots of blackheads and prone to cystic acne breakouts, with a lot of uneveness and scars from previous acne.I haven't had much improvement with the blackeads around my nose, unfortunately (hence the lost star), but I can't remeber being able to run my hands over my face and feel no bumps or dips or flakiness or rough pathces. Its a lovely product. The only thing I will say is that many seem to recommend using this like a serum, by patting it into your face. The liquidity makes this difficult, and I wasn't loving this product until I decided to try it on a cotton pad. Now I put a few drops on a pad and swipe it over my face like a toner, and I find this works brilliantly. When I tried patting it in it just ran everywhere and I'd have to use a lot of it to cover all the areas of skin.
Use at NIGHT only because of AHA in the product Avoid contact with sun when using the product.
I just purchased this in the Sephora sale. When I open the box in the bottle was a dark orange serum. Pictures on the website show it as a lightly tinted peach color I am wondering if this is old?. Looks like a vitamin C that has gone off. Can you ordinary comment on the color it is supposed to be?
I have been using this from last year and it has worked best for me , I had texture and now it has made my skin smooth .
If you want a clean looking skin... you need this!
First Impressions - I have been using the product along with the glycolic acid toner for one week to help with my milia. Because of my sun damage from not wearing sun screen as a kid and through my teens i have hard white bumps on my check bones and near my eyes/lids and around my nose. As such I have been recommended to use acids to help with exfoliation, cell turn over, and to help reduce pore clogging and prevent the milia from returning. With one week of daily evening/night use half of my bumps, the smaller ones are gone and the larger ones have diminished in half their size. Only long term use will show if it prevents them from returning. I plan to reduce the frequency once the remaining bumps diminish to 2-3x per week to maintain. I will post an update after I have gone through two bottles of each as skin care takes several weeks/months to know its true results. DECIEM Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review! Unfortunately, we can not publish this review as it suggests medicinal claims outside the scope of cosmetics. โค
My skin type is oily and I am in my early 30's. I use this in my nightly routine after I have cleansed my face of makeup with Hylamide Oil Cleanser. After the Lactic Acid has dried I use the Rose Hip Seed Oil. I am new to direct acids being apart of my skincare routine and was scared at first. But I am loving this lactic acid by The Ordinary. It does not dry out my skin, irritate it or damage it in any way. I appreciate the packaging of this product because it is not a thick liquid and a little goes a long way. After application I wash my hands with water and then proceed to my next step. I am not sure if it the acid or the oil or the combo, but I swear if I do get any acne that it dries up rather quickly, or at least reduces quickly without having to use a third product!
Now I read somewhere that u shouldn't use acids with matrixyl and I must say I beg to differ.i got this with matrixyl and my skin has never remained the same.i have oily combination skin and I use his in the PM once a week after which I follow up with 2drops of matrixyl and then moisturize.OMG!!!when I wake up in the morning my skin looks brighter, plumper, softer and almost edible.my acne scars have resigned and now am a bold face.people can't stop complimenting me.i love this more than the 10% because my skin is sensitive and the 5% is a slow, sure and steady bet for me.i have stopped looking for quick actions and am sticking to this magic portion.โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
A month ago I ordered this, the Squalane and the Vitamin C Suspesion in HA. I've been using the three of them at night and my skin has improved so much, I cant even believe it. I've been to atologists before because I get those tiny bumps all over my forehead and nothing that they gave me worked. Now within the first two weeks I would see small breakouts on my forehead and sometimes my chin but they would go away within a day (at this point I started mixing some tea tree oil with the Squalane). Now, a month later the tiny bumps have nearly disappeared and my skin looks significantly better!
I love all other Ordinary products that I use but I am confused with this one. It says apply daily at night, but doesnโt state wash off, like the cleanser but then says should only be in contact with skin for a short time. So do you wash it off??
This product is exactly what my skin needed. I eat clean, I exercise, drink tons of water, yet I was still noticing my skin had a dull texture and it appeared my monthly mild hormonal acne breakouts were not healing. I was left with purple scars on my very fair skin, and my regular products were not cutting it. I switched all my skincare to the Ordinary products and started using this lactic acid serum + The Ordinary's Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA face lotion, just the lotion and 3 drops of this serum at night all over my face and neck avoiding the eye area. The difference I am seeing after only using this product for 4 days!!! I had some deep hormonal pimples on my temples (a notoriously challenging spot for me since the skin is so delicate) that are 90% faded just 3 days later-- and I'd been trying to heal these stubborn spots for 2 weeks. I'm noticing my skin texture is already brighter, more even, and MUCH much much more clear. I feel like I'm already on my way to glass skin. It's even helping with the pesky pimples I get on the sides of my neck and under my hairline. I'm noticing acne scars are fading way faster and I feel like my skin is able to absorb moisturizer now-- prior to using this product I felt moisturizer would just sit on my skin. So the lactic acid is definitely putting in its work to renew my skins surface and allow moisture to penetrate deeper. I didn't even realize until now that fine lines are also disappearing with this product (I'm in my late 20s) I have fairly sensitive skin and I have had zero issues with this product. I am just mindful to start slow-- on day 1 I used just one drop of this product mixed into my moisturizer and I am up to 3 drops today. Even with so little product I am seeing a fulfilling difference in my skin. I am definitely excited to keep using this product and I've already shared about it with my friends :) thanks for giving my skin a new life & glow!
Im using Lactic Acid 10% from a month and happy so far. Its really gentle for my super dry skin. Faced no irritation. Few days back, I ordered 5% Lactic avid for my sister. Today got the parcel and Im really confused. The color is different from the picture and from the one Im currently using. Please please confirm whether the product I got is original or ?? That would be a great help. Dont want to waste the product in confusion or risk skin. Im attaching photos. (Im from Pakistan).
At first I started using this for 10 minutes and washing it off. Then I would leave it for 20 or 30 minutes. Eventually I'd just not care that much and sleep without washing it off. It seemed to make no difference. In all cases my skin felt nice and soft in the morning, but it left me wondering if this acid is really exfoliating my skin or just hydrating it lol. I used this twice weekly and my skin felt nice and all in the morning but I didn't see any long-lasting changes. As soon as I washed my face the softness mostly went away. I'd recommend this if you're new to exfoliation or have sensitive skin.
My skin is very sensitive, acne- prone, prone to dehydration too. I apply the acid all over my face in the evening, after washing, then keep it on for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off well and follow with retinol in squalane 0.5. My skin seems to really like this regime! In the morning, I do a lot of hydration with other Ordinary products. Please don't discontinue this mild acid option. 10/10 DECIEM Response: Thanks so much for your review! Please note if you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, we suggest using them on alternate evenings โค.
